Energy ministry to reach public via Internet

The Sierra Leone Ministry of Energy and Power launched its Web site and the first volume of its newsletter on Thursday at the Ministry of Information and Communication in Freetown.

The Web site will help disseminate information on issues of electricity in the country, while the newsletter, "The Energy and Power Review," will serve as the official mouthpiece of the ministry, according to Energy and Power Minister Haja Afsatu Kabba.

The two new outlets are geared toward both the media and the general public to prevent "ignorance or inaccessibility to information," she added.

Electricity supply in Freetown and its environs was restored last December after years of blackout as a result of the decadelong civil war. It has been a topic of contention lately, though, due to the reduction in the power supply ration and alleged irregularities in the awarding of the "emergency power" contract.
