3 Nov, 2008
The Sierra Leone Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, in collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Communication, held a daylong sensitization workshop on the development of a nationwide ICT policy at the Presidential Lounge of the National Stadium last week.
Newly industrialized countries have now realized the vital role ICT can play in enhancing economic and social development, said Information Minister Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo.
President Ernest Koroma is bent on transforming Sierra Leone's economy through ICT, Kargbo added.
"This will be done promoting and facilitating the private sector to serve as the driver for economic development through innovation in the ICT sector," he explained.
Ali Bah, acting director of information and communication at the information ministry, added that an ICT policy will also drive progress toward achieving the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.
