9 Dec, 2008
Gamtel has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Africa Cable to Europe consortium for the acquisition of a submarine cable landing point in Gambia, providing the country with direct access to the international marine cable system.
African countries are moving closer to having an improved and reliable communication system, said Mike Daka, president of the African Association of Communication Development.
The new infrastructure will improve Gambia's access to information, create global coverage and improving the existing national networks.
The project, which is expected to be complete in 2011, will also improve the quality of international telephony and reduce the cost of bandwidth and telecommunication.
